The client allows you to describe the project but not to use their name. The case study can still be convincing if it shows the task, the constraints, your role and the evidence. "We helped a leading company achieve huge growth" doesn't give enough information to evaluate.
Present the anonymous case study with sufficient business context, a specific starting problem, the actions actually carried out and permitted verifiable results. Show how they were measured and what limitations the conclusion has. If the numbers can't be published, describe the verified scope and the change in the process, without replacing them with an invented success.
What context can remain?
Industry, type of business, problem and scale can help the reader judge how similar it is to their situation. But a combination of exact city, revenue, number of employees and a unique service can identify the client even without a name.
Clarify what is permitted for use. A general permission for an "anonymous case study" shouldn't be taken as permission to publish all documents, screens and conversations. If needed, use wider ranges or remove unnecessary details.
A seven-part template
| Part | What to show |
|---|---|
| Context | Type of organization and relevant scale |
| Starting problem | A specific symptom and its consequences |
| Goal | What needed to change |
| Your own role | Which parts you delivered and which belong to other teams |
| Decision | Key actions and the reason for the choice |
| Result | Verified metrics or delivered scope |
| Limitations | What cannot be concluded or shown |
This structure lets you evaluate the project even when there's no public client name.
Separate results from actions
"A CRM process with automatic assignment was implemented" describes delivery. "Time to first response decreased" describes a result that requires measurement. "Sales increased because of the CRM" is a stronger causal claim and doesn't automatically follow from the first two.
State the period, the definition of the metric and the source. The comparison must use comparable groups. If budget, prices and team change at the same time, don't attribute all the growth to one technical change.
How to use numbers that can be published
Use permitted absolute values, ranges or relative change with sufficient context. A percentage without a baseline can create a misleading impression. Note whether the value is an average, a median or another measure.
A sample sentence "After implementation, the median time to first response is [value] for [period] according to [system]" is a template for real data, not a ready result to publish. Don't fill the blanks with plausible numbers.
When you can't show metrics
Describe the verifiable scope: which systems are connected, which tasks are performed, how exceptions are handled and who manages the process. State that the financial or commercial results are not public.
You can present a diagram of the solution with synthetic data, but label it as an illustration. An invented screen is not client evidence. A demo table must be kept separate from the description of the real result.
Images can reveal more than text
Check account names, domains, order numbers, client contacts, photos and file names. Hiding the company logo is not enough. Check alt texts, social sharing descriptions and attached files.
With a permitted screenshot, keep only what's needed to prove the claim. Don't leave sensitive data in an editable layer or the original file. If presenting it safely requires changing the image, clearly separate the edited illustration from the original report.
Editorial review before publishing
- Is there a specific problem and a genuine role of your own?
- Is every claim supported by a permitted source?
- Are actions, results and causal conclusions separated?
- Could the combination of details identify the client?
- Have the images and metadata been checked?
- Is it clear what remains non-public?
Keep the evidence and permissions in a controlled internal archive. A public case study is not the place for all working documents.
How the case study supports the service
Connect the material to the service that was actually delivered. The reader should understand when a similar solution applies and what the next step is. Don't add a list of all services just for more keywords.
For professional services DigitaL+ combines copywriting and content marketing with Content SEO. The context for using evidence on the website is in a B2B website and the right inquiries.
Frequently asked questions
Is an anonymous case study less reliable?
It can be harder to verify independently. Precise context, a clear role and honest limitations help, but they don't replace unpublished evidence.
Can we use sample numbers?
Only as an explicitly labeled illustration, separate from the real results.
Is a client testimonial needed?
Not for every case study. If you include one, it must be real and permitted, without an invented quote or signature.
