Key points

Key takeaways

  • AI search optimization starts with crawlability, clear answers and entity consistency.
  • OAI-SearchBot must have access to the content we want to be discoverable in ChatGPT search.
  • Structured data describes real entities; it does not create authority that the content lacks.
In this article

AEO and GEO only make sense when they build on a good SEO foundation. The goal is not to "manipulate AI" but to make the content and the brand clear, verifiable and useful enough for search systems to use them confidently as a source.

Short answer

For AI search, optimize five things: technical access, direct answers, entity clarity, evidence and topical coverage. Do not rely on a special file, magic schema or mass-generated FAQ pages.

AEO, GEO and SEO are not three separate disciplines

The terms describe different aspects of the same task. SEO makes sure content is discoverable and competitive. AEO puts the emphasis on a clear answer to a specific question. GEO is used for optimizing the likelihood that content will be used or cited in a generative answer.

In practice the strongest implementation is a shared one: a crawlable page, a precise topic, structured passages, verifiable facts, clear entities and good internal link context.

What a citation-ready passage looks like

Weak copy starts with a long marketing introduction. Strong copy defines the concept, sets out the conditions and states the limitations.

Entity clarity: who is speaking and why we should trust them

An AI system does not see the brand only through its logo. It encounters the name in Organization schema, the About page, the Contact page, service pages, social profiles, mentions and external sources. Inconsistent phone numbers, addresses or names create noise.

  • One consistent organization name.
  • Real addresses, phone numbers and official profiles.
  • Clear service entities and relationships.
  • Real people and roles only when they can be verified.
  • About/Portfolio/Case content that supports the claims.

Evidence layer: what makes content hard to copy

If the article could be recreated from the first five Google results without any experience of your own, it is a weak basis for GEO. Add decisions that come from execution: how you chose a canonical strategy, why you consolidated two pages, how you measure lead quality, when you do not use automation or how you validate a migration.

Evidence can also be negative knowledge: when a given approach does not work and why. This is often more useful than yet another list of "best practices".

Structured data: a useful description, not a ranking shortcut

Schema.org is a machine-readable way to describe an Organization, Service, Person, Breadcrumb and other real entities. We should not add a rating, certificate, employee or location that is not present and cannot be proven.

Google explicitly states that no special "AI markup" is needed for AI features. Standard structured data remains useful when it matches the visible content. See the official guide.

Is llms.txt needed?

We do not regard it as a core Google ranking factor. The priority is crawler access, robots controls, XML sitemap, canonical, server-rendered content, internal links and reliable entities. If someone offers llms.txt as a substitute for these things, the problem is in the prioritization.

FAQ schema and AI visibility are not the same thing

FAQ content can be useful if it answers real questions. But in 2026 Google discontinued the FAQ rich-result feature as a general SERP enhancement. So we do not build FAQs just for a visual SERP bonus; we use the questions when they improve understanding and the decision journey.

A practical AEO/GEO workflow

  1. Question map: what the customer asks before making a decision.
  2. Entity map: which people, services, organizations and concepts need to be clear.
  3. Answer blocks: short answers before the detailed analysis.
  4. Evidence: methodology, cases, primary data and official sources.
  5. Internal graph: guide ↔ service ↔ case ↔ expert.
  6. Monitoring: Search Console, referral traffic, brand mentions and conversions.

What not to do

  • Do not create 50 pages with the same content for minor keyword variations.
  • Do not publish AI text without human editing and added information.
  • Do not invent statistics or case results.
  • Do not turn every sentence into an FAQ.
  • Do not block the search crawlers you want visibility from.
AEO/GEO is quality of information plus clarity of the entity graph. If the content does not deserve to be cited by a person, schema alone will not make it citable.
DigitaL+ practice

How we apply the principle in practice

At DigitaL+ the Organization entity uses a consistent name, phone numbers, addresses and sameAs profiles, and service pages are described as separate Service entities. Robots.txt explicitly allows OAI-SearchBot. This does not guarantee citation, but it removes two common obstacles: crawler access and an unclear entity graph.
